Virat Kohli has finally spoken about the devastating stampede that overshadowed Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s historic title celebration in Bengaluru on 4 June 2025. Nearly three months after the heartbreaking tragedy, the former RCB captain, known for openly expressing his emotions, broke his silence on social media, reflecting on a day that was meant to be a historic celebration for the franchise but ended in sorrow.
“Nothing in life really prepares you for a heartbreak like June 4th. What should’ve been the happiest moment in our franchise’s history… turned into something tragic. I’ve been thinking of and praying for the families of those we lost… and for our fans who were injured. Your loss is part of our story now. Together, we will move forward with care, respect and responsibility,” Kohli said as posted by RCB on X.

What was meant to be a grand celebration of RCB’s maiden IPL title win quickly descended into disaster. After they triumphed over the Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad, the team returned to Bengaluru, where a massive victory parade was planned at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The event, however, took a horrifying turn.
With an overwhelming crowd of 3 to 5 lakh fans, the situation quickly escalated into chaos. A tragic stampede resulted in 11 fatalities and left over 50 people injured.
Legal Consequences and Accountability
The incident triggered legal scrutiny. Investigations led by the Karnataka government blamed the RCB management. Authorities highlighted the fact that organisers failed to secure necessary police approval before hosting a large-scale public gathering.
Although the legal process is ongoing, Kohli’s message and the franchise’s response signal a step towards healing. RCB launched a new initiative, RCB Cares, aimed at supporting the families and ensuring better event safety in the future.
