(Watch) MS Dhoni reveals post-retirement plans

As the anticipation builds for the upcoming IPL 2024, former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni, though retired from international cricket, remains a formidable force in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Having led the Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL title in 2023, the announcement of his continued participation in the league was met with great joy by CSK fans. However, at 42, speculation abounds regarding Dhoni’s future beyond the cricket field.

“I haven’t considered it. I’m currently active in cricket, and I’m still participating in the IPL. It will be interesting to discover my post-cricket plans. One thing is certain, I want to dedicate more time to the Army because I haven’t been able to do so in the past few years,” he said in a viral video.

While the Chennai Super Kings gear up for the IPL 2024 season, the lingering question surrounds Dhoni’s successor as the team’s captain. In 2022, Ravindra Jadeja briefly took on the role, but the strategy faltered, leading to Dhoni’s reinstatement as captain mid-season. With doubts over Jadeja’s return as skipper, CSK continues its quest for a new leader.

Addressing the ‘succession plan’ for MS Dhoni during the IPL 2024 auction press conference in Dubai, head coach Stephen Fleming revealed that CSK has had plans in place for Dhoni’s succession for the past decade. Despite these plans, Dhoni remains actively engaged and enthusiastic about leading the team.

“We’ve been planning for MS for around a decade. It’s a topic of discussion, but he’s as involved and excited as I’ve seen him in a long time. With that passion for the team and franchise, we’ll keep moving forward.”,” Fleming stated in response to questions about the captaincy.
