“We have to question the shot selection”: Former player hits out at Indian batters for their struggle against England pacers in second T20I

Indian batters couldn’t handle England pacers in the second T20I in Chennai. The game had drifted away from the hosts before a remarkable effort by Tilak Varma won the match for his side. His 72 runs took the Men in Blue to a two-wicket victory in the five-match series. Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dhruv Jurel, and Washington Sundar were outfoxed by Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton.

England were ahead at one stage, but Tilak managed to script important partnerships with the lower-order batters.

Former India player Parthiv Patel slammed the batters for playing reckless shots on a big ground in Chennai.

“We have to question the shot selection. It was not the ground where you could hit sixes easily. You have to wait for the right moment. It is not a question of facing seamers, as the same set of players performed well in front of South Africa’s speedsters,” he said.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir would like to see a better performance from the batters in the third game in Rajkot on January 28. Earlier, Nitish Kumar Reddy was ruled out of the series, while Rinku will miss two games.
