“We want answers for next season”: MS Dhoni on Chennai Super Kings’ top priority

Chennai Super Kings are out of the playoff race in the Indian Premier League 2025. They have won three out of 12 matches so far, with the latest 2-wicket win coming against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. The defeat to CSK eliminated KKR from the race to make it to the second round.

Chasing 180 runs, the visiting team lost 5 wickets with just 65 runs on the board, but an attacking fifty by Dewald Brevis put Chennai back on track. He scored 52 runs off 25 balls, laced with 4 fours and 4 sixes.

Shivam Dube stayed in the middle to stop the fall of wickets and contributed 45 runs off 40 balls, including 3 sixes and 2 fours. MS Dhoni managed 17 deliveries not out of 18, laced with 1 six to make Chennai cross the line in 19.4 overs.

Dhoni spoke about the team’s performance in the post-match presentation ceremony. “We have won a few games this season. Things haven’t worked out our way. Instead of getting emotional, we want answers for the next season. We will have to see which batter suits a particular situation and which bowler can bowl during a tough phase of the match,” MS Dhoni said.

“We were dismayed at the start of the season as no player was contributing. We are giving chances to the young players who have been a part of the squad for some time. A technically sound player doesn’t need to win a match. A batter with game awareness can do the needful,” Dhoni said.

He also lauded Dewald Brevis. Thanks to Brevis. He gave us the luxury to bat without any pressure. I told the batters not to give wickets to Varun and Narine. I was the last recognized batter, and the real problem started after me. I ensured that I remained till the end,” he mentioned.

Fans are filling the stadiums to show their love for Dhoni, who might announce retirement after the 18th season.

“Fans don’t know when I am going to retire. They come back and support us. I play for two months and then work hard to return for another season,” he concluded.
