Afghanistan Hashmatullah Shahidi is confident of his team’s success in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The sub-continent nation is making its debut in the eight-team event. Afghanistan defeated Pakistan, England, and Sri Lanka in the 2023 ODI World Cup. In the 2024 T20 World Cup, they made it to the semi-final.
Afghanistan are in Group B along with South Africa, England and Australia, and they will have to beat all the big teams to confirm their place in the knockout matches. If they complete this task, India may take on the neighboring country in the semis.
“We will have to take care of the group stage matches and if we are able to make it to the semi-final, we look to defeat India,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma’s team started their campaign with a six-wicket win over Bangladesh in Dubai. Mohammed Shami took five wickets, while Shubman Gill scored a hundred.
The Men in Blue bowled out the rivals on a score of 228 and completed the task in 47 overs. Their next match is against Pakistan on February 23 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
