“Yashasvi Jaiswal a major concern for England in the ongoing series”: Michael Vaughan

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the rising star in Indian cricket, has earned high praise from Michael Vaughan. The former England captain believes that the young opener will pose a significant challenge for the England team in the ongoing series.

Jaiswal’s remarkable journey in Test cricket began with a century on his debut against the West Indies. The 22-year-old youngster scored a sensational 171 in his first Test innings. In the current series against England, his performance has been nothing short of remarkable. His standout achievement came in the second Test in Vizag on February 3. Jaiswal scored an impressive 209 runs, making him the third-youngest Indian to achieve a double century in Test cricket.

Jaiswal’s double century played a pivotal role in setting the stage for India’s victory. In a challenging situation with wickets falling around him, he exhibited composure and discipline against formidable bowlers like James Anderson. Where the remaining members of his team couldn’t even muster a score above 35, Jaiswal’s contribution was crucial for India’s total. The innings, comprising 19 fours and seven sixes, showcased Jaiswal’s aggressive yet controlled approach.

With a total of 321 runs from four innings at an average of 80.25, Jaiswal leads the run charts in the series. He had also scored an aggressive 80 in the first innings of the first Test in Hyderabad. His consistent and impactful performances have not gone unnoticed, with cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar acknowledging Jaiswal’s quick learning abilities.

Even as the other Indian batters have been struggling to get going, Jaiswal has made sure to give the English bowlers a headache playing an aggressive brand of cricket.

Jaiswal’s an incredible player: Michael Vaughan

Adding to the accolades, Michael Vaughan expressed his admiration for Jaiswal on the Club Prairie Fire podcast. Vaughan, who had conversations with the young talent during last year’s IPL, referred to Jaiswal as an “incredible player” and emphasized that he would be a formidable challenge for the England team in the ongoing series.

“I think he poses a challenge for England. He’s a concern. He’s an incredible player. I encountered him in Mumbai, and the following day, he scored a century in the IPL. Now, he has achieved a double-hundred against the top team in the world, ” Vaughan said. His comments highlight the impact and potential challenges posed by Jaiswal to the England side.

India lost the first Test by 28 runs in Hyderabad and bounced back in the second Test by securing a victory of 106 runs to level the 5-match Test series.

Both sides will walk into the third Test to take a 2-1 lead in Rajkot starting from February 15.
