Jasprit Bumrah made his much-awaited return to cricket with an IPL 2025 match between host Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, he failed to pick up a wicket and conceded 29 runs from his four overs. Despite a good economy rate, the speedster was far from his best. Jitesh Sharma failed to connect the full tosses by the seamer. He managed to hit one six in the last over of the RCB innings, taking the total to 221/5 in 20 overs. He remained unbeaten on 42 runs off 19 balls. Overall, Bumrah was smashed for two maximums, with Virat Kohli registering the first one in the opening over of the seamer.
Bumrah was handed the ball in the four over, and Kohli went after him from the start. The 36-year-old dispatched the great pacer for a six on the second ball.
Former opener Navjot Singh Sidhu mentioned that Kohli’s six put Bumrah on the back foot, and he couldn’t take a wicket. He credited Virat for nullifying the threat of Bumrah in the contest.
“You never thought in dreams that Virat would hit a six on Bumrah’s delivery. His shot nullified the threat of the pacer. Bumrah couldn’t trouble the batters with his trademark style because of the shot Virat played against him. Devdutt Padikkal was brilliant with the bat, and when he came to the crease, Virat told him that he was there and would attack the bowlers,” Sidhu said.
Sidhu doesn’t like to hear criticism of Virat Kohli. “God says to Virat to take whatever he wants. I feel bad when someone criticizes the batter. I feel bad when Virat gets lambasted,” he added.
